The right one to get
This is my fifth JDS product. I keep coming back because you get real performance without the ego-priced hype of many other brands. Just good engineering. I know the history and source of the circuits, tried and true, well executed. Several of the affordable amps do not include the subsonic filter I consider mandatory. The tone controls are fantastic for tuning the cartridge to your preference. Personally, I like it a little "soft". I have two other "popular" imported amps. The Atom is more dynamic and enjoyable. Especially over that "orange knob" one. Dead silent even with my Saundra headphones. ( Atom Amp 2) FWIW, Sumiko Rainier cartridge feeding a passive ALPS servo pot into X-KITZ crossover boards, and dare I say, Schiit Vidar amp. Cablesonline 1M interconnects of 45p for a total load under 200p gives me a flat response. I then back off the treble to about 11:00.
WOW!
Wow! The Who Quadropenia first up… sheer perfection, Yes Yes Songs next, I can’t wait but will enjoy every note!!! THANK YOU!
Absolutely perfect!
I’d wish I had purchased something from JDS labs sooner. This is the best company I’ve ever done purchased audio equipment from. The shipping and delivery time was freaky fast lol. And the product itself is just solid. Simply put. Best built amplifier I have, and I have far more expensive amps for different purposes. This little phono amp is all anyone would ever need! I love the EQ control, and the fast that it even doubles as a regular pre amp if need. So much in one package. And a FREE engraving. Awesome! 100% would love to purchase more JDS items in the future. Thank you!
Great dual-use product
I actually bought two Atom Phono units -- one primarily for use as a phono preamp, and another strictly for EQ in a headphone stack setup. It shines in both applications. The bass shelf frequency is great, not making things too muddy when turned up like other competitors' products. Digital EQ is of course more precise, but it's really convenient to be able to adjust the analog EQ as needed without reaching for a phone/tablet/PC.
Awesome!
You simply can't beat this preamp for the price. The signal is clean and the tone control for lows and highs completely changes the game!
Zero complaints
Full disclosure, this is my first phono preamp, but I'm not entirely new to hi-fi. I am running this in my bedroom setup into a Yamaha amp and Wharfedale Diamond 12.0s. I previously had these speakers in my main setup, where the source was a Yamaha AVR for movies (standard and 4k BD) and a Wiim Mini for lossless streaming from Tidal. I think the speakers sound great with this preamp, as they did with Tidal. The imaging is possibly better now. I hear zero noise from this thing at moderate volumes, until I drop (or clean) the needle. Build quality is quite nice. The treble and bass knobs work just fine, though I currently have them disabled. Would recommend, despite my lack of experience with vinyl. I can't see myself considering this the weak link in the chain for quite some time.
Perfect preamp for my application
The Atom Phono is the perfect preamp for connecting my old Technics turntable to the Yamaha home theater amplifier that I recently acquired. It was easy to setup and the system sounds great. Highly recommended!
JDS does it again!
This device works great and sounds wonderful! I have it paired with my original Atom and while they aren't exactly the same size, it still makes a nice little stack for my listening station. The two band EQ is handy for records that need some re-balancing of the high or low end. I feel that this is one of the best value phono pre-amps on the market, and sounds way better than my previous entry level unit for not much more money.
Top notch!
Purchased mine immediately after release and have compared to a handful of the competitor's in the sub $200 range and this one easily takes the cake for my ears. Excellent customer service and happy to support an American made, quality product.
Good preamp for the value
Not disappointed with this purchase from JDS labs :)
The phono preamp is well built and delivers quality sound with a very easily adjustable gain level. The addition of EQ on the front adds significant added value to this well-designed device. Perfect for my turntable (SL 1200 Gr & Ortofon concorde elite)
Great product
Well made and sounds great!
Simply great
Purchased this and 2 other similarly priced phone preamps. The JDS Labs is DEAD quiet!!! Overall better sound then the other two and more features. The treble and bass knobs are a huge bonus. I don't get into the little details of the sound like some do, but simply put this was the best of the 3 by far!!! I doubt any phone preamp under $350 is as good. Buy it before they realize they could charge twice as much and still would be a bargain!!! :) My system is Linn turntable, Exposure 2010s2 integrated and Sonus Faber Sonetto IIs. All these are way more expensive than the JDS Labs phono preamp...........however it was their equal
